Microdermabrasion, Smoothing the Skin
|
|
Microdermabrasion works by removing the skin's dead cells and increasing the cell
turnover rate of our skin. The look of fines lines and wrinkles can be improved
with a procedure like microdermabrasion, at least superficially, by improving skin
texture and smoothing the rough superficial skin layer.

Improving Skin Texture
The stratum corneum is removed during a microdermabrasion session. This layer
is particularly troubling as it is where make-up and debris often become caked-on
and exaggerate the look of our wrinkles and fine lines. By removing this layer,
microdermabrasion can improve the look of skin texture.
Wrinkles and Fine Lines, Our Enemy
Most people assume wrinkles and lines on our faces are the natural result of aging,
but they are not. The sun is the greatest cause of wrinkled and damaged skin. Skin
on a person's back or buttocks (any area usually protected from the sun) is always
less wrinkled and damaged than the face. This is due to the fact that the sun is
the single greatest source of damage to the skin causing wrinkles and fine lines.
If our skin is protected from sun damage, either with sunscreen or by sun avoidance,
we will see less wrinkling and fine lines.
